The Crisis in South Sudan

During worship on Sunday, May 21 we learned about and prayed for the crisis in South Sudan. War has gone on in South Sudan for more than fifty years. More than 2.5 million people have died, and more than 4.5 million have fled their homes or the country. Our denomination’s mission and relief organizations—Covenant World Mission and Covenant World Relief—are among those partnering with ministries in South Sudan.

Most recently, the United Nations declared in February of this year that much of South Sudan is now suffering from famine. According to the U.N., more than 100,000 people face imminent starvation, and roughly 5.5 million people—nearly half the population—will not have a reliable source of food by July. Read more about this crisis at here.

We are pleased to share that over $2,500 was raised during a retiring offering on Sunday, May 21 to support relief and development efforts in South Sudan. Please continue to pray for this country and how you may participate in their healing.
