The Crisis in South Sudan

During worship on Sunday, May 21 we learned about and prayed for the crisis in South Sudan. War has gone on in South Sudan for more than fifty years. More than 2.5 million people have died, and more than 4.5 million have fled their homes or the country. Our denomination’s mission and relief organizations—Covenant World Mission and Covenant World Relief—are among those partnering with ministries in South Sudan. Most recently, the United Nations declared in February of this year that much of South Sudan is now suffering from famine. According to the U.N., more than 100,000 people face imminent starvation, and roughly 5.5 million people—nearly half the population—will not have a reliable source

Streams of the Spirit

The Columbia River is the largest river in the Pacific Northwest and the 4th largest, by volume, in the United States. Dropping an average of over two feet each of its 1200 mile length, the Columbia’s flow rate is the highest of any North American river draining into the Pacific Ocean. Its large flow and steep grade means this river carries an immense amount of energy. The Columbia is one powerful river! But it doesn’t work alone. The drainage basin covers an area the size of France which is fed by portions of watersheds from seven states and British Columbia. Dozens of smaller rivers and hundreds of tributaries feed into this massive ecosystem. Hiking around Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and North Ca

If there’s one thing I learned this year, it’s this: God will accomplish his purposes, no matter what obstacles might get in the way. You see, we faced numerous challenges this year on the trip – from health scares, to vehicle iss

Throughout the Bible, God does not promise that we will be kept safe from weariness, suffering, or difficult situations. This is one of the reasons why we need to be reconciled! The Bible reveals to us that these things are inevitable – that we will experience hardship. In other words, the Bible tells me hard things will happen and you can do them because God is with you. This comforts me because though really crappy things happen there is hope thr
